Katie + Will: Countryside engagement session in Bethany, Ontario

Autumn light is something else entirely. I almost forgot that until doing this engagement session with Will & Katie up in Bethany. We played in the deep, rich orange colours of the sunset and hiked up the hills on Will's parent's gorgeous property. These engagement sessions make my heart, so, so happy.

It always amazes me how awe-inspiring beauty is in plain sight. I used to think we had to drive hours out of the city to find something new, something exciting (and yes, it's true driving way up north has some unbelievable scenery!), but this place was close. This little wonder known as Mono Cliffs left us feeling like we flew to BC & came back in a mere 40 minutes. Turquoise ponds, staggering cliffs and caves, and Mari & Mitch in front of my lens made for one of the best engagement adventures I've had yet. I can't wait to document your wedding story this year, you two!

My dear, In the midst of hate, I found there was, within me, an invincible love. In the midst of tears, I found there was within me, an invincible smile. In the midst of chaos, I found there was, within me, an invincible calm. I realized, through it all, that... In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer. And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there’s something stronger - something better, pushing right back.
— Albert Camus

It's amazing how contrast can lead us to gratefulness and perspective. How a chilly winter walk will make a blanket feel that much warmer. How bare branches will make us appreciate spring's first bloom. How the energy of genuine love can warm up even the coldest night. I love the way changing seasons help us see things more clearly.

I love the minimalist beauty of winter, I love the idea of cozying up inside a cottage while the snowstorm creates chaos outside, I love the way winter light creates a cool glow inside an old barn. I love the way I can see my own breathe manifest in front of me.

Out in the Kawartha countryside, we celebrated love in the depths of winter.

This wooden cabin is located at South Pond Farms. It's the coziest place nestled between fields and forest, and truly felt like something out of a dream. When the snow started falling outside, you could feel the magic of being in such a warm environment.

Everything was handcrafted to feel organic and part of the natural environment. The rustic wooden table in the barn, the beautiful white-like-snow cake by Le Dolci, decorated with real figs and leaves by Timberlost. The table-for-two set up, lighted by thin candles and adorned with grapes, branches, and petals. The custom wedding bands by Kim Drosdick from Flux + Form Jewellery, designed to replicate birch wood texture. The beautiful watercolour menus and place cards by Sam from Have & Hold Design. So much love was poured into creating all of it.

And the dress, a beautiful Pronovias design found at Something Green Bridal. I absolutely adored the intricate lace details, and how organic the dress felt. It complimented soft, moody hair & makeup by Elie Habib Salon so nicely. And last but not least, the cozy shawl was from Mama Loves You Vintage.

And then the lights ended the night...
